North Carolina State University is a partner with Olds Elementary School in
implementing an exciting science and humanities program. The
University Connections model is based on the concept of
students as active learners, with teachers and university
partners acting as facilitators. Students use quality tools
and practices in the design, implementation, and evaluation
of learning modules in the sciences and humanities.
Together, North Carolina State University and Olds
Elementary create an exciting, real-life learning experience
for our students.

Young Scientist Program
The
Young Scientist Program is an NCSU organization
that aims to bridge the gap in the areas of science between NCSU and local
elementary and middle schools. Check this NCSU web site for planned activities
and recent photos!
Artists in Residence Program
Each year the school hosts three artists in residence. During their
week long stay they work with students to explore a topic, create and
perform. The week culminates in a Family Gallery Night that showcases
the work for parents and friends. Each artist works with two grades with
each grade participating once a year. More about this year's gallery
program...
Rocket Day
Each spring the third grade classes build and launch rockets with students from the
Dept. of Aerospace Engineering. Many thanks to Dr. Bill Roberts for coordinating this activity.
Field Trips
Each year Olds students participate in exclusive field trips around NCSU.
Subject to scheduling, these
visits may include the vet school, greenhouses or Schenk Forest.
We have also been invited to participate in the NCSU Homecoming Parade.
