Koality Kids Before & After School Return to Programs

Koalaty Kids

Koalaty Kid logo Our school has been an active member of the Koalaty Kid section of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) since the 1995-96 school year. Our staff has been trained on how to use quality tools and practices to improve our school.

We started teaching students how to use quality tools for learning purposes in the 1996-97 school year. Students began documenting their own progress in quality data notebooks starting in the 1997-98 school year.

Our school improvement plans have been based on the concept of continuous improvement for the last five years. Be sure to check our current "School Improvement Plan" to review our current strategies for improving our school. You also can talk to your child's teacher to learn how s/he is teaching and using quality tools and practices in the classroom to promote learning for students.

What Is Koalaty Kid?

Koala Bear Koalaty Kid is an approach for improving what we do in schools. It is not a prescribed program, so schools can utilize it to achieve their own objectives. Olds Elementary is a "Koalaty Kid" school.

The four key factors are:

  • Active involvement of the whole school community
  • Committed leadership
  • Employment of a system for continuous improvement
  • An environment that celebrates successes.

Koalaty Kid is a student-centered approach where students:

  • Sustain enthusiasm for learning
  • Behave responsibly
  • Feel proud of their achievements
  • Strive to meet high standards
