Programs
Science Fair
Our Science Fair is a collaboration between the PTA, NCSU, and Olds teachers.
It is chaired by parents who find volunteer judges from throughout our community.
Students may begin their projects at any time but most work on their projects
in December and January which allows our winners to move on to the countywide
competition. The Science Fair lasts two days with grades K-2 presenting one day and
grades 3-5 presenting on the other day. All our students tour both sets of exhibits
and parents are encouraged to do the same.
Reflections
The theme for 2007-08 is "I can make a difference".
A national PTA program,
Reflections
offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition.
Students are encouraged to create and submit works of art in four areas:
literature, musical composition, photography, and the visual arts
(which includes art forms such as drawing, painting, print making, and collage).
At Olds, we have our specialists trade judging duties with
another school to ensure impartiality. Look for information in October or November.
Character Education
While there is no single script for effective character education,
WCPSS has adopted specific traits to summarize the key principles.
By utilizing the same language of character and using specific words,
our families can join with our schools and community in cultivating a “culture of character”.

Character Corner.

Yearbook
Take digital photos, create fun pages, promote and take orders.
Grounds
Plan and promote a fall and spring "work" day for families to spruce up the grounds. A subcommittee is working on playground master plan improvements and fundraising to continue this major project.
Jr. Achievement
Teach (5) five pre-planned lessons to a class regarding the interrelationships between individuals, families, communities and business. These lessons in business and economics begin in Kindergarten and build upon each other through 5th grade. No teaching experience required - the lessons are designed to be taught by business people and require minimal planning.
