Some simple ways to become part of the Olds Community:
- T-shirts and Tote Bags: Work an event and/or create flyers promoting these items.
- Cafeteria Monitor: Walk around talking to students, making sure they clean up after themselves, keep excess noise down, stay in their seats, and use general manners and good behavior. Any 30-minute period between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
- Computer Lab K-1: Assist in lab with our youngest users, helping with keyboarding, logging in, activities, etc. See your child's teacher for times.
- Writing Helper: For grades 2-5, any morning, help with one-on-one editing for grammar, word choice, focus, etc. Ask your child's teacher about times.
- Math Helper: Any morning, assist one-on-one or in small groups. See your child's teacher.
- Homework Helper: Mostly after school from 3-6 p.m., 30-minute minimum.
- Testing Proctors: Mainly for EOGs in May. Four hours on one to three mornings depending on your availability. Twenty-minute training session required.
- Transportation: So everyone in our Olds community is able to participate, parent volunteers provide rides to students and/or their families to school events.
- Dads Group (aka DoFOs): Self-directed group of dads, uncles, grandfathers and older brothers who decide how to participate as a group. They may handle event security, act as classroom readers for the N.C. Book Awards, work at field day or find other creative ways to become involved.
